Remembering In Flanders Fields is a juried art exhibition by local artists commemorating the 100th anniversary of the writing of In Flanders Fields.

Three of our Guild members have works accepted for this exhibition. They are Connie DeRuyter, Donald Johnson, and Bruce Shapka.

Phoneography with Kim Lawrence Wednesday, March 18 2015

On Wednesday, March 18  Kim Lawrence will present the topic of "Phoneography"

Kim is a local web designer with a background in graphic design. 

In 2011 she got an iPhone 3GS and fell in love with mobile photography. Since then she's spent countless hours experimenting and honing her phoneography skills. She's currently using an iPhone 4S and looks forward to upgrading to a 6 in the near future.

In addition to being an avid iPhoneographer, Kim's a  founding member of the Annual guelPhonography Mobile Photography Contest and Exhibit. 

During her presentation Kim will:

• share some of her work
• demonstrate some of the popular apps, and
• provide info on participating in #guelPhonography

Lesley Liikane Presentation on Astro and Nature Photography Wednesday February 18, 2015

The Guelph Photographers Guild next General meeting will be on Wednesday February 18 at 7:00 pm at Dublin Street United Church.

Our presenter will be Wesley Liikane. His presentation will deal with astro and wildlife photography.  He will be bringing some of the gear he uses for deep space and wildlife photography. 

Guild Trip to Blown Away Glass Studio, Elora, Ontario February 7, 2015

Guelph Photographers Guild February's outing will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2015.  Our outing will start sharply at 10:00 am and finish at 11:00 am.

This hot glass studio features handblown glass made in Canada. Tim and Katherine McManus, have been collaborating on designs and techniques for nearly twenty years! Their work is represented in many fine craft galleries throughout North America. 

     

Metal Printing at Ponds Photo

On Saturday, January 24 Guild members attended a demonstration on how photographs are printed on metal.  The demonstration was conducted by Quinn at Ponds Photo in Guelph.

The Arboretum at the University of Guelph January 21, 2015

Summary of January 21 presentation:  

The Arboretum at the University of Guelph comprises over 400 acres of botanical collections, gardens, and natural areas. One of the only true Arboreta in Canada, we focus on native plants and plants of known origin in more than 30 collections. Our natural areas, including wetlands, meadows, and upland deciduous forest form an important part of the City of Guelph’s natural heritage system. Research and conservation projects include the development and maintenance of a Native Woody Plants of Ontario Gene Bank and an Elm Recovery Project. Our education and outreach programs inspire students and members of the broader community to connect to the natural world. The Arboretum has a wealth of different environments and features to explore and photograph all through the year. Shelley’s presentation will give an overview of the Arboretum and its mission, including behind-the-scenes work that is not always apparent to visitors. The talk will also highlight interesting areas and features that may inspire you to take beautiful pictures.

Shelley Hunt - Short Bio:

 Shelley holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences (1996) and a PhD in Environmental Biology (2003) from the University of Guelph, and spent many years doing research on the ecology of pine and spruce plantations in northern Ontario. She joined the faculty of the School of Environmental Sciences at U of Guelph in 2006, and was appointed director of the Arboretum in February 2013. Shelley teaches courses in Environmental Sciences, and continues to do research in forest ecology and restoration. Shelley lives near the Luther Marsh, in Damascus, Ontario, with her husband and four-year-old son. They enjoy planting trees on their rural property.

   

Liquid Collision

Our general meeting took place on Wednesday November 19.  We met at Dublin Street United Church 7:00 to 9:00. Our presenter was Rafal Kiermacz. His presentation is entitled "Liquid Collision"

He will be providing a demo of capturing a collision between two water drops.  His goal is to provide a demonstration together with an explanation about how he is able to repeatedly and accurately capture something that takes approximately 100 milliseconds to occur.  He  plans to demonstrate how using technology allows us to create an art piece, otherwise unachievable with traditional photography equipment.
